about

at first

Orlaith was born in Dublin, studied English in Trinity College, and went on to complete a Ph.D. in Renaissance literature. She taught English literature in several Dublin institutions, on courses ranging from Beowulf to feminist science-fiction.

and then

From Dublin she moved to Grand Haven, Michigan, where she curated 'The Scriptorium' - a private museum of manuscripts, early printed books, papyrus scrolls, cuneiform tablets and other treaty things. Caring for 4000 year-old tablets of The Epic of Gilgamesh, medieval illuminations, a Shakespeare Second Folio... working with the collection was inspirational in all kinds of ways.

Other jobs included working for JP Morgan on Wall Street, and for Devon Music Service, in Devon.

and after that

In 2006 she decided to write full-time, and made the big move to the semi-tropical island of Madeira.

Despite the abundance of local wine, writing went well. She is now based in West Cork, Ireland.
